Summary | 0005789: Expedition leader goes insane after failed mood and changes into a trader.
Description | In the first year of my fortress my expedition leader entered a fey mood. After ideling, I built a crawtdrawfs workshop which he claimed. I had none of the meterials required. The dwarvern traders arrived with the liaison immediately leaving unhappy. I traded some items and the traders left. My expedition leader then went insane and changed into a trader. He behaved as an insane trader and attacked my dwarfs. Upon his death I buried him and the description of the coffin is still of a trader. The units dead\missing page shows one dead trader.
Steps To Reproduce | Have your expedition leader fail a fey mood.

Just to clarify; -The announcement was "XX, trader has gone insane." -The symbol of the dwarf changed to that of a trader. |
Insane? Not berserk? How do you know it was the same dwarf with a different symbol, rather than two different dwarves with the same name? Do you have a save from when the "trader" was still alive? |
How do you know it was the same dwarf with a different symbol This part covers that: The units dead\missing page shows one dead trader. I think the cause here is that a unit loses its noble status when it goes insane, and one specialized in conversational skills only is marked Trader. |
I only have the save after death. The announcement was definately insane. Same dwarf, there were only about 20 adult dwarfs in the fort and the game paused and centered on the ex- leader once it happened (who didn't move from the workshop). Right from that moment it showed the trader symbol (blue @). The wiki says insane traders are always hostile. I looked at lost noble status tread but I don't think that explains the symbol change and behaviour. |
This is normal behavior - when a dwarf goes Berserk, all entity position assignments are immediately revoked. Presumably, your leader used to also be your Broker, as a dwarf whose highest skill is Appraiser will have the job title "Trader". |
