Summary0005856: Secretive blacksmith is demanding wagon 'bones'
DescriptionMy blacksmith becomes secretive and claims the forge I have temporarily set up on the surface, and doesn't grab anything. I check his demands, and he is demanding bones, metal bars, and cut gems. I have several of each of these, and it seems that bones are first on his list - I have plenty already, but I slaughter some more anyways. Since he's still not satisfied, I check his personal preferences, since I remember one dwarf who had to have dog bones because he was listed as liking dogs. Turns out that this dwarf likes, among other things, wagon wood.
So, do I need to kill some wagons and hear the lamenting of their humans?

Reminder sent to: MasterofYoda

Wagon wood wouldn't show up as "bones". Double-check that you have ALL the listed materials (unforbidden) and that the blacksmith isn't trapped in the forge by impassable tiles. If that doesn't clear up the problem, please upload a save to http://dffd.wimbli.com/, reopen this report, and post the save link here.

There are two piles of bones behind the butcher's one z-level down from where he is, cut gemstones in the depot, and piles of metal bars in the smelter next to the forge. I'm pretty sure none is forbidden - I know that there are un-forbidden examples of each. He isn't trapped and none of the resources are blocked. I've tried slaughtering more animals (for more bones) and cutting more gems - to no avail. I also killed a wagon for some wagon wood, which was equally useless. So I haven't a clue.

If he has claimed a forge, then bones are not first on his list. He will need metal first. However, he refuses to touch the metal bars in the nearby workshop, which is strange. He may require a specific metal - perhaps tin, since he has a preference for that metal.

A quick check with DFHack's "showmood" command (which I wrote for situations exactly like this) confirms that your blacksmith wants the following items:
1. tin bars
2. any bones
3. any bones
4. any cut gems

Well that's...annoying. There is no cassiterite on the map. I guess I'll have to melt down a cage if Tin doesn't show up on the next caravan.
