Summary0005965: Difficulty mining stairs from below
DescriptionIt seems that sometimes, when designating a stairwell to be dug out above at least an up/down stair, miners will not pick up the job to dig the stairwell. I do not recall the exact circumstances, but a workaround is removing the designation and re-marking it.
Additional InformationIt is confirmed that they are not picking up the job - in my most recent occurrance, I had two miners, both of whom probably could path to the job (checking errorlog.txt while the game is still running has no mention of path errors). They were both busy with lots of hauling, so I removed the hauling labors from one of them through Therapist. A short while later, after a drink and nap from the non-hauler miner, there was no job. Removing the stair designation (which was an up/down 1 z-lvl above a dug-out up/down) and recreating it resulted in the job being taken

If this problem lasts through a save/load (many pathfinding problems don't), it would be helpful to upload a save to http://dffd.wimbli.com/ and post the link here.

gah, just overwrote the save. Yes, it was persisting over save/load. I'll gen a pocket world, try to get the bug to happen again

It's actually kind of frequent; I've gotten it to happen a few times myself where they refuse to dig up. I ended up actually just going from the top down as I was able to access the top point.

I was doing a bit of thinking about an unrelated issue (I had a large area designated for mining, FPS fell). What I came up with to solve that problem is to only try to path to tiles to dig which have been revealed. However, that solution would also cause this bug, as, while downstair blocks are revealed, upstair ones are not, and might be partially related to the bug.

Please reopen this report or PM me on the forums if you have a save that reproduces this problem in 0.34.11+.
