Summary | 0000636: Meat hauling will not carry stacks
Description | Animal meat is moved one piece at a time rather than by stack. This leads to absurd behavior, such as being completely unable to move all of an elephant's meat to a stockpile before it rotted after butchering. .40d behavior moved meat with the stack as a unit. Despite rating as minor, this is a severe annoyance as virtually the entire fortress has to be tasked to food hauling simply to dispose of an individual animal's carcass after butchery.
Steps To Reproduce | Any meat hauling task, especially from butcher shop.

I've seen them haul meat stacks. Are you sure you don't mean rendered fat or something? |
I just watched them carrying elephant meat away from the butcher 1 meat at a time. since there were like 90 elephant meat, and my fortress has 14 dwarves, this took awhile. This does not apply to prepared intestines and whatnot - those seem to haul as stacks just fine. Its specifically the "$name meat" items. (Barrel hauling with meat in it also appears to work fine). Edit: Trying to reproduce while i'm explicitly watching it, just to make sure. |
Ok, they picked the entire stack up that time. I don't know what's up. |
Maybe they were carrying away the individual pieces to eat? |
They carry individual pieces if they are going to eat it or going to put it into backpack for later eating in case of soldiers. |
I've never seen them raid tasked food items before when they weren't in a food stockpile... |
Yeah, dunno. I do know that in 40d, thirsty dwarves would frequently grab barrels of freshly brewed booze before they got moved to a stockpile. If it happens again, check what jobs the haulers are doing, that should help pin it down. |

Any updates? Has anyone else observed this one? |
