Summary | 0006453: Ocean waves bypass beach and continue inland when beach is channeled
Description | After channeling out several map tiles on the edge of the beach (to create an opening into an underground drowning chamber), I noticed that the incoming ocean waves (white '~') were no longer breaking (and generating mist clouds) on the beach; instead, the line of white '~'s were continuing to move inland, crashing (creating blue wavy-equals water patch and clouds of mist) when the waves hit the first obstruction (in this case, a 1 z-level high sand hill about 10 tiles in from the new edge of the beach). The tiles over which the wave passed did not become wet, muddy, or otherwise change in any way I could see with 'k'.
Steps To Reproduce | 1) Embark on a beach 2) Observe waves crashing on the beach 3) Channel out any of the tiles on edge of the beach 4) Wait for the next wave and observe the wave passing over the beach and hitting distant objects.

Edit 1: attempted to reproduce elsewhere on the coastline; did not see the same behavior. Will continue to try other options. |
|
Maybe it depends on the angle of the wave? |
