Summary | 0000652: Ice buildings vanish in areas that should be sufficiently cold
Description | I started my fort on a glacier and started building. Being that ice was my immediate building material, I used it to create the first set of workshops. I had turned temperature and weather off to save FPS, but it seemed like my FPS was keeping pretty high, so I saved, quit, and turned them both back on. Upon loading my fortress, the ice workshops were simply gone, as was all the loose ice chunks scattered around the fort. My miners continued to dig out rooms in the ice, leaving ice chunks behind, and nothing seems to be happening to them so far. It's winter and I'm on a glacier, so I don't think the buildings should have melted. None of my ice walls or floors outside have been affected, there's still snow on the ground, and overall, it seems that only the workshops made of ice have been affected. It wasn't even that after unpausing they vanished, but upon loading they were just gone. I don't know if this is because I turned temperature back on or not, but I really don't see why those workshops would have melted even with temperature on, because it's probably pretty damn cold in this fort.

It would be very helpful if you kept experimenting to determine whether or not it was caused by turning temperature back on. |

I'm pretty sure this is 'as designed', or at least, '40d compatible.' For example I determined with experimentation in 40d that slaughtering a muskox was always enough to melt a butchery made of ice. |

It does appear to be temperatures fault. With temperature on from the start, I embarked on a tundra. The ground is covered in snow and werewolf blood freezes on the ground in an instant. I then tried to build a masons workshop out of ice from the aquifer. It was on the surface but melted immediately upon completion. Similarly, ice dumped into a garbage zone on the surface melts into puddles of nonfrozen water, next to the pools of frozen werewolf blood. In fact, any ice that a dwarf picks up is destined to melt upon being dropped, but so long as it remains where it was mined it is fine. Constructions are fine because they remain, as always, completely invincible. Edit: Missed an angle in my testing: The Ice seems to be fine where-ever ice previously formed. I can build a masons workshop out of ice in the frozen aquifer, dump and move it, etc. etc. so long as it stays in areas where water previously turned into ice. |

Reminder sent to: bilkulp, GRead It would be helpful to upload a save with a workshop that's about to get completed (and will melt after completion). http://dffd.wimbli.com/ |
