Summary0000683: Dwarves carry items as "multigrasp"
DescriptionNot sure exactly what triggers it, but I often find dwarves carrying weapons via "multigrasp" rather than in a specific hand.

For example, I have a miner who has the usual body clothing, plus a "(copper pick), Multigrasp". He has no other items in/on his hands or hauled.

Requesting confirmation that this is not a bug. Maybe the dwarf just likes holding it with both hands? If someone were to experiment, with a dwarf carrying a weapon and shield. Upon which the dwarf is prevented from carrying a shield due to a one handed item being multigrasped. Then I would consider this a bug.

I've seen dwarves holding two battleaxes in one hand, a shield in the other hand, and a third battleaxe "multigrasp".

If "multigrasp" means "with both hands" then it's at a minimum badly named, and given the other behaviour I've seen, fairly buggy anyway.

Multigrasp does mean "with both hands," yeah. It's an awkward term, but "both [body parts]" wouldn't work for modded creatures with different types of grasps... I guess that's suggestion territory.

Anyway, the fact that they're multigrasping weapons is not itself a bug. Weapons have the parameters MINIMUM_SIZE and TWO_HANDED, and creatures whose size falls between those parameters will multigrasp the weapon.

Holding multiple weapons is definitely buggy, but that's already reported in 0000648

Well, if it's based on those parameters, shouldn't all dwarves either use one hand or multigrasp for a particular weapon? I have seen both. (Or is this just per-dwarf size variation?)

Probably the individual size variation, yeah.
