I think that in DF "spice" merely means "a meal can't be made out of only this". I tried making a lavish meal out of four stacks of raspberries and it wouldn't let me, but it worked fine with one stack of plump helmets and three stacks of raspberries. |

In 0.34 and earlier, the term "Spice Barrel" was used to denote barrels containing Leaves (i.e. quarry bush leaves). Version 0.40 replaced Leaves with Plant Growths, and most edible plants exist as "plant growth" items instead of "plant" items. |
