Summary | 0007614: Dwarf 21 (to Dwarf 20): "I died."
Description | First of all, this dwarf isn't dead. ...And I don't know what else to say about that. I put a bunch of dwarves on the same side, and then I dropped several dozen chickens (also on the same side) on half of them from the max Z-level of the arena. Dwarf 21 was not harmed, and neither was Dwarf 20. Coincidentally, several others followed suit and announced their own deaths, including some who had been clobbered by falling poultry. It was inevitable.
Steps To Reproduce | 1) Put dwarves on lowest Z-level possible on the surface, and make them all the same faction 2) Put chickens of the same faction on the highest Z-level possible, directly above them 3) Turn on Morality 4) Assume control of a single chicken sitting safely on the ground nearby so you can spectate 5) Enjoy the inevitable

You: "Hello, dwarf. I am Chicken 31." Dwarf 17: "Died." EDIT: It actually appears that they actually mean to refer to the dead hens on the ground. Now this sounds like a familiar issue reported around here... Though it's still concerning that I've just addressed a dwarf as a chicken. |

It works if you have morale/fear off. |

http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=10036 40.15 While it's kind of well after the actual moment, the previous night while I was using jump tackle to try and kill an elven adminstrator, there were two people that said 'I died' after some collateral damage happened. Theres also a 'I heard that died.'. |
|
Speculation about the cause: Most of the people in any given site (and in the arena) are not historical figures. They are effectively anonymous until you talk to them, which causes their names to "stick," i.e. turning them into historical figures. The problem is that the game doesn't distinguish between different anonymous creatures of the same race. As a result, a conflict between "a human" and "a human" will be reported by another anonymous human as, "Just now, I attacked me." Likewise, the death of an anonymous elf will be reported by another anonymous elf as, "I died." |

That's... a fascinating piece of insight. |

I think this should be linked to 0006862. |
