Summary0007713: Merchant animals survive underwater indefinitely
DescriptionWhenever traders try to leave my fortress, they pass through my moat, resulting in the merchants themselves drowning. However, their animals seem fine, even though they are covered in 5-7 unit deep water. Again, this has happened on multiple occasions, and effects both caged and non-caged animals. I've had a horse survive for over a year at the bottom of a waterfall.
Steps To ReproduceHave a map with a waterfall or moat, preferably on the path to your depot. When a caravan comes, they may pass through the water, and you should see the behavior reported above.
Additional InformationIt seems that only merchant animals are effected, however I am unable to confirm it.

Technically this is a duplicate of 0005999, but that report is old and had no save, so I'm closing it in favor of this one.

I've seen this happen as well, but I don't have a save of it. It happened because the merchants attempted to cross the moat. As soon as they entered the moat it seemed to break their pathfinding, and they remained alive underwater until the map froze over.

Dwarfu, the bug I'm reporting is that the merchants' animals don't drown, which, while related to 0005999, is a separate problem.

Here is the save, by the way: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=9199

Agreed that this is a separate issue.
