Summary | 0008182: Barony enforced with only 16 dwarves and no liaison
Description | Playing along in my first year of a game in Fortress Mode, currently 15th Galena, 550. I have a total of 16 population counting my original 7 plus 9 that came in the first migration wave. No caravans or liaisons to date. Have created very little wealth: maybe 4 beds, 20 drinks and 40 plants, with some mines dug down that hit a 9x9 patch of magnetite and lignite. No manager so can't say exact created wealth amount. From my reading on the wiki (which could be wrong) it appears that baron's are only meant to appear once you have at least 20 population at the point that a caravan leaves, you have exported at least 10k wealth and have created at least 100k wealth. Yet on the 15th Galena, 550 I receive an announcement stating "Urdim Youthfultheaters, being the rightful heir, has inherited the position of baroness of The Perplexing Tongs."
Additional Information | I am running Peredexis Errant Pack 10_08 r3. Possibly related to: http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=8037 http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=7676 Also experiencing the already reported bug (http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=3369) of seeing "a barony" as the title on the nobles screen, confirmed to occur on Windows (3369 lists linux as OS).

The wikipedia article has not been updated with the new informations in 40.x. Succession mechanics have changed considerably, and the old rules does not necessarily apply here. You got a baron because the old one died and one of your dwarves inherited the position. According to Toady's comment in 0006874 this is intended. |

As fricy explained, this is intentional behavior. The requirements on the wiki are for your barony, and the baron you got technically has his barony somewhere else (he won't leave, though). |
