Summary0008328: Dwarf adopts nonexistent pet; spams job cancellations
DescriptionSeveral in-game months ago an elven caravan showed up. As soon as they entered the map I got two messages about a rat and a hamster gnawing their way out of confinement. Later on I noticed they showed up on the z>Animals screen, so I marked them as available for adoption and didn't really think any more about it.

One of my dwarves adopted the hamster and has been trying to retrieve it ever since, except that the animal doesn't show up in the units list, living or dead. So I've gotten somewhere between several hundred and a few thousand instances of "Fath Othosustuth, Planter cancels Recover Pet: Animal inaccessible." Fath hasn't done anything else, though as of yet she hasn't gotten hungry/thirsty/tired so I'm not sure if the loop is bad enough to kill her. It has dropped my framerate from the high 50s to the low 30s, though.
Steps To ReproducePresumably, have unrestrained tame vermin on your map, then mark them for adoption after they run off.
Additional InformationThis is under the latest version of the LNP, three years into an otherwise uneventful fort.

Vermin isn't counted as an actual unit. If it's still present, it should be listed on the z->animals screen _or_ in the "stocks", as (tame or live?) "small animal"; at least if it's actually counted as property of your fort. Have you tried retrieving it through the stocks screen? This might give better information on what's going on.

same problem here. i presume the hamsters left their cages while still technically off-map and thus are out of reach for citizens.
