Summary | 0008612: Fey Strange Mood Failed to Produce XP Gains / Skill Improvement
Description | From experience from past versions and careful reading of the wiki, I had understood some Strange Moods to confer experience gains, with the exception of Possessed. In this case, I had an already-Legendary Miner be taken by a fey mood! and create Ethzuthlenod, "The Insensitive Seed," a gypsum quern, in a craftsdwarf's workshop. His only moodable skills before and after creation are weaponsmith (skilled), carpenter (competent), and mechanic (dabbling). He is a dabbler or novice in several other non-moodable skills. If this is a bug, I thought it worth reporting, otherwise, I may have a flawed understanding of the Strange Mood system. For example, going by the wiki I don't see where my dwarf got the notion of taking over a craftsdwarf's workshop with the moodable skills he had going for him. Also, I had expected that a given dwarf would be affected by a Strange Mood in a manner impacting their most advanced moodable skill, which in this case should have been weaponsmith.
Additional Information | Version 0.40.19 unmodded save file uploaded to dffd, username swordwright, bugged save entitled "Fey Strange Mood not conferring experience." Announcement of artifact creation occurs within seconds of unpausing loaded savegame.

Just to clarify, it was your legendary miner that got the mood, right? Mining is a moodable skill, but it works the way mason moods do and uses the same workshop. There is no label after legendary, so it just looks like they didn't gain skill. However, if he made the artifact in a craftsdwarf shop rather than a masons shop, then that is a bug. Also, could you please link the save so that we don't have to go looking for it? |

Apologies, I went to verify the workshop taken and it was not a craftsdwarf's workshop but a mason's workshop, which presumably means that mining was the mooded skill and everything behaved as expected. Although it is probably no longer required, the save file lives at: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=10213 Thanks for looking, I expect this one can be closed as expected behavior. |
