Summary | 0008757: Trade screen doesn't show traders' attitude
Description | I thought I'd fixed all my modding woes when I removed the fairy dragon, but I tried to add it back in - and had to take it back out. This time, however, I managed to screw up something else. When the caravan comes to trade, it says literally nothing about how the traders currently feel - I don't know if they're pleased, happy, impatient, etc. I have never had this problem before, even when sending someone with no social skills to trade, so it has nothing to do with skills. It happened first with the first-year autumn caravan, and now it's happening with the spring caravan from the elves. Here's the save in question: http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=10477
Steps To Reproduce | 1. Download linked-to save. 2. Play until the next caravan. 3. Appoint a broker and bring goods to the trade depot for trading. 4. Press t to trade and marvel at the mysterious absence of attitude text.

According to http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Judge_of_intent you need your broker to have at least "Novice" in "Judge of Intent" skill to get these attitude messages. Are you sure you have one such? According to DFFD you are using 0.40.23. At which version was the world and this fortress generated? Does your errorlog.txt show anything interesting during trading (just guessing: maybe something like "Can't load attitude, SOME REASON")? So are you now using unmodded DF or are you using any mods? Modding can lead to lost of dead ends, so the main question here is probably: Does this issue reproduce in unmodded DF 0.40.24 (= current version)? Have you seen this happen in other fortresses then this one? I feel like "priority = high" is bit too much. |
My broker does have Novice level in Judge of Intent - I think she was that way when I genned the world. Nevertheless I'll gen a world without the leader having that and see what happens. This is the first fortress I've seen it in, but between this one and the last I fiddled with the raws. Nothing on the errorlog about it. Currently using DF with some modded creatures in it - usually they don't cause any problems, so I'm pretty sure it's the fairy dragon. Perhaps if I copy/paste the raws from the older (this is a relative term) it will go away? |
The mood display depends on your trader, which is not necessarily your broker. Also, some conditions interfere with your trader's ability to judge intent. Being blind, asleep, or otherwise incapacitated may remove the attitude text. |
Copied and pasted in raws from an older region, before I messed it up. That appears to have fixed things, so it was something messing with my raws in that creature's data. Issue can now be closed. |
All right, thanks! Feel free to reopen this report if you can reproduce this problem without raw modifications. |
