I would think this is expected behavior to be honest, in 40d the only dwarves that were eligible to be specifically assigned to rooms were nobles and dwarves with high skills like legendary or champion. I never looked too closely at this, it didn't seem to be a problem.

Most dwarves just claim zoned but unspecified bedrooms.

Not true. That only happened after the economy kicked in. Before you could assign anyone a bedroom.

I've also had several situations were dwarves were strangely missing from lists. Not ALL the dwarves, and not all the time, so I don't understand how to replicate it.

Yes, I made the entire living quarters "Home Base" burrow

humm alright, well I guess I never tried that hard to manually assign every dwarf, way too much hassle when they can find and claim their beds just fine on their own. my mistake.

I've also had this problem in the military screen when selecting dwarves. For some reason I had a dwarf (a single one) who was only available to be recruited into one squad, but not another (they did not show up on the list). I never figured out why.

Were the dwarves that were missing from the list assigned to a different burrow than the one the bed was placed in?

DoctorZuber, I was trying to see if assigning each dwarf a bed fixed the problem created by 0000034. It didn't help, btw.

Footkerchief, that's possible. I'm at work and don't have the save here, but I'll check when I get home in a few hours.

If that is the case, then specifically the issue is this: the bed I'm assigning isn't actually in a Burrow and the dwarfs that aren't showing up on the list are assigned beds that are in the "Home Base" burrow.

Again, not sure if that is the case.
