Summary | 0009379: Game isn't able to load my saved regions
Description | In previous versions I would be able to create a new world, this world would then be saved and I could create a fortress in the world whenever I wanted to by clicking "start playing" and then selecting the world I created. Now I am no longer able to do this. I create a new world, I create my fortress, I save and exit the game. I open my game up again and there's no "start playing" option, my fortress is saved and can be loaded but there's no option to load my world. Which is strange because when I check the save folder C:\Users\Tom\Downloads\dwarf fortress\data\save all the regions I created are saved within that folder... The game simply wont read my saves...
Steps To Reproduce | 1) Download DF0.42.03, 2) extract 3) create new world 4) create new fortress within that world 5) save game 6) exit fortress =problem. (world isn't read by program)
Additional Information | This problem has also existed for DF0.40, all the worlds are saved but only some worlds could be loaded but even then those worlds would randomly disappear and never able to be loaded again. I have about 60+gb of free space so I don't think its a space issue...

Does the start new fortress option become available for the world if you retire or abandon your existing fortress? I've never been able to have two concurrently running fortresses in a single world myself so I believe this is normal behaviour. |
|
@MichaelB Well now... this is awkward... So you're only allowed to create 1 fortress in 1 world? |
|
You are allowed to create any amount of world you want. In each world you are at one time allowed to play in one of three modes: Fortress, Adventure, Legends. If you are playing one fort/adventurer and want to create new one in the same world or change to other modes there, you need to either retire or abandon your current one first. If you want to change worlds, use "Continue" in the main page and select the other world. If you want new world, use "Create new world" in main menu. It is possibly to have, say, three player forts and one adventurer in one world running at once, but you as player can give commands only to one at a time. You can play fort1 for few months, retire fort1, continue playing as that adventurer, retire him/her, reclaim fort2 and play there for a while... Each change of thing you play ("change of player focus") also means there will be 14 day period of world advancing. See http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Reclaim_fortress_mode for more info. |
