Summary0009408: Miners won't channel straight down more than a few z-levels
DescriptionIn the new version I can't seem to get miners to dig a single channel straight down over more than a couple Z-levels. Previously when I would designate a 1-tile vertical stack of channels across many z-levels, a miner would start digging from the top and then become trapped in the hole and thus have to keep digging until reaching the bottom. Now when I try to do this, they channel for only a few z-levels and then somehow climb out of the hole and give up.

I'm attaching a save as an example with a vertical channel shaft already designated straight down for the surface. Watch as a miner digs only a few z-levels down before crawling back out and then being unable to get back in:

Steps To ReproduceDesignate a single 1x1 vertical shaft for channeling many tiles straight down.

May be related to 0009383, "Mining over z levels takes forever" or 0007910, "Miners will not finish mining".

Not related to 0009383; that's a different issue entirely.

It's definitely easily repeatable, I just downloaded a fresh copy of 0.42.03, unzipped it, genned a new world, embarked, and told the miners to dig a vertical channel-shaft 1x1 straight down 20 z-levels. The miner got about 3 z-levels into it before climbing out and going back to "No Job".

I swear I used to be able to do this in previous versions, this was my go-to method for building garbage chutes, etc.
