Summary0009438: Caravans/invasions do not come reliably from accessible civilizations
DescriptionIn fortresses that have accessible neighbors (i.e. human/elf/goblin/dwarf show up in the embark screen), caravans are only sent from the dwarves. In the attached save, the dwarves also stopped sending trade caravans after a couple years. No invasions or thieves have come to the fortress either. (Visitors come regularly from the humans, dwarves, and goblins, as expected.)

Civilizations are not dying/dead, depot is accessible, and I haven't done anything to anger any civilizations.
Steps To ReproduceBug has been observed consistently as follows:
1. Generate a new world (basic parameters: Small, Short, High, High, Medium, Medium, Everywhere)
2. Embark on an area with all four neighbors.
3. Wait for caravans. The dwarves have been observed to send caravans normally at first, but other civs do not send anyone even after several years.
Additional InformationVanilla, no mods or third party apps applied.

I am getting all dwarven/human/elven caravans in 0.42.04 (generated 0.42.02). When was your world generated?

Are there still human/elven sites nearby when you look a world map? I guess all other nearby sites could have been destroyed/damaged so they can't send caravans. Their civilizations could have survived elsewhere.

How old (years), big (dwarf count), wealth (dwarven megabucks) is your fort? Sieges now need to send real units and not come from thin air... and those attackers also need to want to try to attack you. So if you are too far/too small/too poor (or they too decimated) they may rather go elsewhere.

Check legends mode and world map please. Also, does errorlog.txt show something interesting. Hm, are you getting any announcements about traders? Is your mountainhome liaison coming still?

I have a save with this situation as well (if you want it).
I started on year 2 - it's year 9 or so - and the last caravan from humans was i think year 5 (same with dwarves). The elves sent a couple after - but the last elf one only half the traders ever got to the depot - so they were always unloading goods.

I assumed this might have to do with the heavily forested nature of the map - and that perhaps they didnt have a safe place along the edge - so i paved all along the edge where they had been appearing. When that didnt work - i used dfhack liquids to start a forest fire over there thinking maybe that would burn whatever might be blocking them off map - but fires leave trunks so i'm not sure that did any good.

I do still have a civ as do my neighbors according to legends - and the elven diplomat shows up bitching about trees every year - but there are no caravans at all.

I tried retiring and unretiring (with the giant mess that entails - pools of beer everywhere) - but that didnt change anything. The only thing i've done to 'tweak' the game is use the marry script to force the lovers to marry (they're too slow now - and in year 2 they need to be breeding). I would upload the save but it sounds like you already have one - i'm just chiming in with a 'yep - i see this too'

I've reported a similar case: 0010015 No caravans after first couple years.
Yours and my report might also be related to 0009593 Stocks items zooming to empty tiles near map edge; possibly caravan items.

A similar issue is occurring in my world. It's difficult to diagnose if this is intentional or not, as the liaison died the last time the caravans arrived and my civilization is very low pop, but since my civ isn't fully extinct and I'm not getting the "No outpost liaison? How curious..." message, this seems like a bug.

As the caravan hasn't been arriving to gauge my wealth production every year, I've also been getting no migrants.

Note that this world is in 0.44.09, and the issue may be fixed/different in yesterday's update (although this is unlikely).
