Summary0009448: Multiple issues with constructing floors / walls around or above trees
DescriptionI wanted to build a tower to enclose a plant gathering area, and seal off the ceiling with floors to keep it secure from flying intruders. I kept running across a few issues; not sure if I should separate them or combine them into one. I'll do the less spammy option, just in case.

I would build a ring of walls, use bridges as temporary scaffolding along the inside to build the next layer, then remove the bridges.

1) Bridges don't 'flatten' tree parts -- even though you can build a bridge over branches and twigs, it will be impassable for your dwarves, causing pathing issues. Floor tiles will work fine, though.

2) It's possible to build walls over non-trunk tree parts, but if that tree is cut down, it makes all the walls over its parts 'collapse' -- not in the horrible dust-cloud way, either. All the walls that were placed over tree parts either vanished, or turned into floor tiles -- though adjacent walls were still connected to them. It also affects higher up constructions: even though the built-on branches were two or three levels off the ground, that section collapsed all the way to the top. Had to build a stairway up, deconstruct all of it, then re-build.

3) When placing floors, dwarves will see tree canopies as solid surface, but anything built on the canopy will collapse, and cause a cave-in effect.

4) The few actually solid canopy blocks (using ΒΌ as the icon) will leave soil behind if a construction is built on it, then removed. I ended up with clay floor tiles on top of a tree, but it couldn't be designated a clay collection zone, though it was possible to designate it to dig a channel. (I didn't let anyone dig it, just in case).

5) If a tree is cut down when a floor tile is built touching its canopy, the materials used for the floor will vanish. They don't come down with the tree, and will leave empty holes in the floor above. (You also won't see any materials from the mysterious leaves-into-clay glitch.)
Steps To ReproduceBuild stuff on or too close to trees -- I ended up restoring a save the first time there was a floor collapse, so I could see what went wrong, and the same things happened.
Additional InformationPlease forgive me if the multiple issues in one report thing is a faux pas -- they all came from the same project, and are fairly similar problems.

Some similar issues may have been already reported:
ad 1: there is 0008308, "Strange interactions between trees and bridges" which notes bridges through trees are impassable

ad 2: there is 0006948, "Trees supporting adjacent constructions is inconsistent"

ad 4: there is 0001981: Constructing wall/floor over ice ramp/stairs, followed by removing ramp/stairs, creates a "void tile" and I think there were also other reports which noted removed construction changed floors under them to soil but can't find them now

Please upload your save (zipped region folder) which can show these weird behaviours to http://dffd.bay12games.com/ and post a link to it here.

Just to be sure, though that probably doesn't affect this, are you using any third party tools, have you done any changes to raws or is this vanilla DF? Which platform-version of DF are you using (Linux/Mac/Windows)?
