Summary | 0009491: Zombies respawning in a Market
Description | Walked into a town, game has my mods but there aren't changes to necromancers/regular undead, I did make the dwarf entity build towns since they're less laggy/more interesting to explore than fortresses, but I don't see how that would cause this. I have never seen this before in 42.xx, the only interesting thing about the town otherwise is the presence of a library a bit to the northwest of the keep and the two shrines directly west of the keep. I traveled over there to visit the keep and exited travel mode in the market, for some reason lots of merchants are actually zombies. I helped kill them (the merchants do well by themselves, and undead ignore me due to syndromes I have active from my mod) and when I roamed back over there I noticed they came back again. Checked a few times and it is consistent so I was glad I had copied the save when I first noticed them so I could submit it. http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=11675
Steps To Reproduce | See the zombies, kill the zombies, be the zombies, whatever you want to do is futile, they will always return when you leave and come back.

It happened again: http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=11693 http://i.imgur.com/uLXgFbG.png The white human corpses (shaped like a capital U) with the ~ over their head are all zombies, all respawn when the market is reloaded, and all cause FPS to drop to <1 or so due to the merchants and zombies all starting a brawl. One of them even shows up in the keep. Totally different world, changed the banditry to 100 for all races and added the variable_positions tag to the dwarf entity so their lords give out hearthperson quests properly, none of those changes nor the mod changes explain this. |
Is there maybe somebody around who read the book of life and death and gets often in brawls in markets, calling corpses to his/her help? |
Nope, absolutely sure that it isn't due to necromancers, they wouldn't respawn in the middle of town where merchants should be if it was. If you keep killing them and reload the map you can end up with hundreds of dead bodies laying there not being reanimated. |
Here's an example where I got ambushed in the middle of the market by a night creature, I saw the asterisk wander over while traveling, the zombies don't show on the travel map, and notice how they are all beside stalls like merchants? http://i.imgur.com/vIm2SM0.png |

Same save as the one I just posted, different town, first one was in Braidedcloister, this one is a bit northeast in Lashedink. http://i.imgur.com/C6eBZ9W.png Braidedcloister is the northwesternmost metropolis, Lashedink is the one northeast of the volcano, south of the tower: http://i.imgur.com/vdvTU1B.png There's no necromancer around though, and it is only happening with the markets so there is something weird going on here. |
Got far enough away that I could move again (the lag... god it is so terrible) and was able to write a poem and reload them, then before I moved or anything I grabbed the screens for this gif: http://i.imgur.com/mntQQhs.gif Sleeping merchants and sleeping zombiemerchants and sleeping soldiers. |
This still happens in 43.02, btw. |
Yeah, this time I can tell that it's an evil chunk of terrain right here where it is, wasn't sure other times: http://i.imgur.com/3EitpZR.png so maybe they're assigning some of the zombies that would be there to be merchants? |
Ha ha, 43.03 zombie merchant goblin nap time is still a thing! http://i.imgur.com/U5hg8Zw.gif |
