Summary | 0009701: Visitor amount erratic
Description | Having gone through several world generations now, the amount of visitors that come to apply for long-term citizenship is erratic. In some worlds (most worlds if you turned the number of beasts down, and allowed more sites) visitors are extremely prolific. In one case i had 8 people (3 in a group) ask for residency before the second summer. That was 8 of about 25 total citizens. This is a major drain on a early fortress's resources and they don't help at all until two years later when they ask for citizenship. In other worlds where many civs are dead or struggling the amount of visitors is practically nil. i've had forts where there were no visitors at all (aside from diplomats) for several years. In my current fort, it's the first autumn but i haven't gotten one visitor yet (compared to another fort, the other fort had at least one residency petition by this point). As it is, visitors seem to depend greatly on how the world generation plays out. I assume this is not a feature because invaders are partly generated (only the leaders have to be historical figures). Visitors as a feature do not work for all worlds right now; sometimes they work "too well".
Steps To Reproduce | Generate a world with a low number of sites per civilization (500 on medium) and a high number of beasts (200+ megabeasts) with at least 1000 year histories, but ideally 2000 years or more. then generate another world with double the amount of sites, about only 50 beasts, and 300-500 years history. Found a fort in both worlds for half a year to one year, have a tavern set from the first meeting area (i assume this is standard for many forts; mine includes a still with booze in it and craftdwarves shop with mugs, i don't bother with stockpiles because it'll take a year for the starting 7 to haul anything). Observe the difference in the amount of visitors; it becomes very apparent by the second year.

Invaders are based on actual population, they're not "generated". Not sure there's any bug going on here. |
