Summary | 0009848: Crash during embark in specific world/site
Description | Trying to embark to a salt water site, half of which is a biome with an aquifer-- something I've never tried before, and I've never seen the game crash during embark before, leading me to suspect a possible connection. After preparing for embark-- whether custom or "Play now"-- and hitting e, it spins for a bit and crashes.
Steps To Reproduce | Region folder and TIFF map to embark site in question available at http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=12162 Reproducible on my machine, with different starting civilizations (both with and without iron) and different embark loadouts; hopefully this means it's a general problem. I think the save implicitly contains the world generation information, but just in case, I'll stick it in under "Additional Information" below.

I have encountered this problem in DF 0.44.05. My region folder and JPEG map are at http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=13521 . I can successfully embark elsewhere on the map, so this bug is site-specific, although it doesn't involve a salt-water aquifer. I am running vanilla DF through Starter Pack 44_05 r02 with utility programs turned off. (Ordinarily I run Dwarf Therapist and Soundsense.) Reboot of the computer did not fix the problem. Starter Pack settings are vanilla except for Meph-Lite graphics (which ordinarily run fine on my system). World was simple gen with default settings except for High savagery and High number of civs. Embark location size was the standard 4x4. |
|
Crash reproduced in v0.44.10 when embarking as specified. It is unlikely that the salt water aquifer is related--I have embarked on similar aquifers successfully. |
|
I generated a world with given parameters (44.12 lin64), and was able to embark successfully at specified location. Fixed somehow after .44 worldgen changes? Civs look different. Referenced save however surely gives the game SIGKILL. Out of four non-overlapping 2x2 embarks within specified 4x4 embark only one crashes. Within that one i checked all four 1x1 embarks, they don't seem to cause any troubles, but two overlapping 2x1 embarks reproduce the crash. I guess there is a tile that works by itself, but kills the game when selected within a bigger embark. Save from the top comment works just fine. |
