Summary | 0009956: Stockpile acquirement of containers is restricted by "take" links
Description | When stockpiles try to acquire bins and barrels for storage, this is restricted by their "take" link - if they have at least one "take" link, and none of those linked stockpiles have bins/barrels, they will fail to get containers. This is technically correct, but I consider this a bug because this logic is not useful and makes the link feature significantly harder to use. Containers are not part of a stockpile's contents and shouldn't be constrained by options that control the flow of their contents.
Steps To Reproduce | Create a stockpile that would use bins/barrels. Make sure some bins/barrels are available. Create a "take" link to another stockpile that contains items compatible with the first stockpile, but does not contain bin/barrels. Observe the stockpile failing to use storage containers despite them being available.

Actually - I just remembered that the "take from anywhere/only from links" switch exists. This happens even with it set to "take from anywhere", so it's a bug even technically. |

Tested in v0.43.05 x32 with the following procedure: embark with multiple stone blocks create a bar/block stockpile with bins disabled wait for the blocks to be stored create a new bar/block stockpile with bins enabled set to take from the first create a few bins Result: dwarves correctly hauled the bins to the new stockpile and filled them with blocks despite the "take" condition Perhaps you had set a "Reserved" amount of bins/barrels? If not, please post a save to DFFD ( http://dffd.bay12games.com/ ) and link it here. |
