Summary0000998: Dwarf tries to butcher skeleton
DescriptionMy butcher hauled a crundle skeleton to the butcher's shop, and stood over it for ages trying to do something with it. I left him for a while to see if it'd resolve itself, but eventually I just suspended the butcher job to let him get on with other things.

On a similar note, I've had an alligator skeleton be butchered. I suspect the creature died due to rain as the fat had melted off.

furiousfish -- it can take a long time for them to butcher things. See if he finishes the job given enough time

This sounds like intended behavior assuming he eventually finishes the job. Remains or Skeletons must now be "butchered" to recover the bones. Some skeletons cannot be butchered because of ethical reasons.

yes, even completely decomposed animal corpses can now be butchered, they just yield some amount of bones and a skull. While this may seem less like butchery and more like 'taking a skeleton apart,' It is, in my opinion, a welcome change from the old system which left bits and bones a everywhere. Its much easier on the haulers this way.

And yes, sentient beings currently do not yield usable bones or skulls because they cannot be butchered. The corpses will just fill up your refuse stockpile. You can always toss them into magma. ;p

Ok, it happened again and this time I left it, he did complete it after a very long time (produced a skull, bones, and a scale). Still seems wrong to me.

Wrong because it's counterintuitive for them to be "butchering" skeletons? I pretty much agree, but that's in Suggestions territory.

Reopening cause I changed my mind.

Pretty certain this is intentional...but adding tag for review.
