Summary | 0010316: Troglodyte baby cannon
Description | I breach the caverns, set up some cage traps and a tribe of troglodytes is captured. I move them all into one cage to save space (and because I needed all the cages to rearm the cage traps) and I get on with life. I go back to check all the cages are empty and none of my dwarves have managed to panic dragging the trogs to their new home and all is well and good. All the cages are now empty, barring the one the trogs are sitting in. About ten minutes later I get a message about a trog giving birth to a girl, I go to check and lo and behold the trog baby is in the cage the mother was originally captured in, not the cage she is in and has been in for like ten minutes now! I don't know what's more impressive really, the sheer distance she managed to fire the sprog, or the fact she got it to curve around two corners and still land in her old cage. Oh, and as a bonus since it's a baby none of my dorfs will even go near it to move it.

When a wild creature gives birth inside a built cage the newborn is not assigned to the cage. Consequently, your dwarves will come and "free" the newborn by moving it to its own unbuilt cage. Did your dwarves have time to move the baby to an empty cage and haul it back to the stockpile before you checked up on it? |
|
Good question. I'm assuming no since they aren't moving the babies to the main cage, but I'll play that file a little more and see if anybody does go and move them. If they do then it looks like this isn't an issue then. |

Moving wild/hostile creatures to a cage requires both animal hauling and animal training; "freeing" a hostile creature from a cage may or may not require both. You can try unassigning one of your other troglodytes in the built cage to test if your dwarves can stuff it into a loose cage and haul it to the stockpile. |
