Summary | 0010629: Raid squads never return or reach destination, instead getting permanently stuck on 'traveling'
Description | My fortress was dying. A serious goblin attack had slaughtered most of its skilled personnel and left it with children and migrants. Instead of leaving the fort to tantrum spiral and go insane, I sent out as many as I could in a suicide attack on Vileflighty, a goblin pit which should just have been a days travel away. Some of the members of the squad were too injured from the prior attacks and were still in hospital (contributing factor to unreturning squads?), but the rest made their way out of the fort, but never seemed to reach their destination. It has been multiple months now, and they are still marked as never having reached their destination. I am uncertain if this means they were taken prisoner.
Steps To Reproduce | Unknown.
Additional Information | A similar problem happened earlier. If I remember right, one of my military dwarves was stuck and could not join the rest of his squad, and they got stuck on traveling until I loaded an earlier save.

Upon running the save for a few more hours, I have discovered that this may not, in fact, be a glitch. It seems as though the dwarves scattered and panicked after a catastrophic defeat and took an unusual amount of time to make it home. I think it's just that DF's displayed date doesn't often realistically match its happenings, like how elves can take days to melt in magma. That being said, however, the dwarves returned long after I had removed the wounded from the squad. Maybe the extreme wait was a result of stuck dwarves? |
Interestingly, upon the soldiers returning, there has been a continuous lag spike. That could just be the ghosts flying around, though. |
Did the injured dwarves ever leave the fort? My understanding is that while every other member of the squad might have left the map already, they don't really head to their objective until every squad member is off the local map. The long wait time may have been due to the injured dwarves finally leaving. |
I don't think they did. I removed them from the squad when I realized there was no way they'd survive, seeing that they were bedridden in hospital. |
I've seen the problem with disproportionate army wait times reported by people on the DF Discord. The dwarves did not "disappear", but I believe there certainly is a problem with the time armies are taking. |
yeah it seems like dwarves dont actually "set out" until all dwarves assigned to the raid leave the fort, i had this issue as well, unassigning wounded dwarves is an easy fix. |
