Summary | 0001216: "take from stockpile" will not move items out of barrels/bins
Description | If you create a stockpile, set it to not allow any barrels/bins, and then set it to take from another stockpile that does have barrels/bins, the dwarves will not move any of the items that are already in container.
Steps To Reproduce | create a stockpile that uses containers (food, finished goods, etc) allow some items to be placed in it create a second stockpile of the same type, set max bins/barrels to 0 set the second stockpile to take from the first only individual items will be moved from the original stockpile to the second, dwarves will ignore any that are already in a container.

derp, well I found several other reports on issues related to 'take from stockpile'. I don't know if this one is unique, because 'take from stockpile' -does- function for me in general, just not in the circumstances i posted, whereas the other reports seem to relate to it not working at all. |
|
I set up an outside refuse stockpile as a workaround for the lack of rotting, and while many dwarves seem to be trying to move remains and rotted plants to the outside stockpile, they're largely dancing around. |

Seems related to 0001392. |

This should probably go to a suggestion discussion instead. The general take-from behavior has been fixed for 0.31.07, but leaving things in barrels/bins is important to stop take-from orders from making a mess. Instead of using max bins/barrels, there ought to be a better way to move specific goods out into a destination pile while still allowing the destination pile to have bins. It might involve a dwarf coming along with an additional bin though. The setups can get pretty complicated, if you are trying to take, say, a general crafts pile and divide out each type of craft by type into different destination piles, while having them all land in bins cleanly. |
