Summary0000373: Combat logs show animals grasping with body parts they shouldn't: leg, hoof, wing
DescriptionWhile going through my combat reports in fortress mode I found this:
"The Stray war Dog grasps the Kobold Thief by the upper right arm with his left rear leg!"
I'm pretty sure dogs should not be able to grasp with their back legs.

He's a very dextrous dog?

He could be standing on his arm?

This is true with any entity. For example, in adventure mode, one of my wrestler allies managed to grab a dragon's wing...

Quotes from my current (0.31.25) game (where I have three goats, two bull calves and a sheep pastured together):

The Stray Bull Calf grabs The Stray Bull Calf by the nose with his right rear leg!
The Stray Bull Calf stands up.
The Stray Bull Calf grabs The Ram by the left horn with his right front leg!
The Stray Bull Calf grabs The Stray Nanny Goat by the right ear with his right rear leg!
The Stray Bull Calf grabs The Stray Nanny Goat by the left horn with his left front leg!

I don't think those animals are supposed to be grabbing each other with their leg/hoof.

On a related note, that I believe is part of the same problem, I had a giant eagle use its left wing to put one of my militia dwarves into a leg lock ("... locks the right knee of the spear dwarf ...").

I'm not sure this one is actually a bug, however. ;)

34.01 takes this one step further (although it's not an animal...):

Imush Sinsotobok, Woodcrafter is throwing a tantrum!
The Woodcrafter grabs The Stray Turkey Hen by the fourth toe, right foot with her larch crossbow!
The Woodcrafter punches The Stray Turkey Hen in the head with her left hand, bruising the muscle, jamming the skull through the brain and tearing apart the brain!
The Stray Turkey Hen has been knocked unconscious!
The Stray Turkey Hen (Tame) has been murdered by Imush Sinsotobok!

34.05, just had a zombie grab a stray bunny by the leg with his upper arm. The zombie did have a lower arm and hand with which to grab the bunny ... (see, its not a lucky rabbit's foot for the rabbit!)

[edit] here's a good example of the oddness:

The Human Corpse grabs the Stray Bunny by the second right rear toe with his right upper arm!
The Human Corpse releases the grip of The Human Corpse's right upper arm on The Stray Bunny's second right rear toe.

There is lots of this type of thing in the combat report for this poor abused bunny. ;)
