Summary0004062: Hunters who are also in the military don't train or pick up equipment
DescriptionI have made a new militia squad under a captain, and assigned, among others, two Hunters into it. I assigned them leather armour and melee weapons. While all the others train okay within their assigned schedules, the former Hunters continue hauling stuff even when on shift, don't pick up their assigned armour, and don't train.
Steps To Reproduce1. Have Hunters in fortress.
2. Make a squad with Hunters in it, all melee.
3. Assign squad a schedule, barracks and equipment.
4. Hunters never train, act like civilians, don't carry weapons.

Did you remove the hunting labor from the drafted dwarves? It's known that Hunting, Mining and Woodcutting labors tend to mess up with soldiers, as those labors are using invisible uniforms, which tends to mess up with the equipment picking.

I've tried that afterwards - undrafted them, removed Hunting, redrafted - but that did not help visibly.

How long have you waited after assigning them a schedule? It sometimes takes quite long time before the dwarves realize that they had to go to train.

I assume that you remembered to set them active through the alerts, as other squads are training properly.

have you tried to order them to move somewhere, then canceling the order? This could trigger them to realize that they are not civilians anymore.

I've waited long enough for them to realize they should be military. They changed over to military mode, but didn't train or pick up equipment.

Okay, just to make sure did you do the drafting this way:
-> Undraft the hunters
-> Resume the game and wait few seconds. Pause the game again
-> Remove the the labor from hunters
-> Resume the game again, wait few seconds and pause the game.
-> Draft the dwarves and set their schedule and uniform.
-> Unpause

Also, are the hunters in the squad of their own, or are there other soldiers in the same squad? Are the other soldiers training properly?

That's pretty much how I did it. The hunters were in a squad with other dwarves who trained properly. Right now they're mostly dead due a tantrum spiral, so anything I say is from memory.
