Summary | 0004288: Military screen doesn't show enough information on dwarves, resulting in the drafting of new mothers and cripples
Description | A dwarf who is already a militia captain shows up on the list of dwarves you can choose to be a militia captain. And when you assign dwarves to a squad, the list of available dwarves includes those who are already on other squads. This annoys the shit out of me, because I keep accidentally moving dwarves from one squad to another when I wanted to make a whole new squad of dwarves who haven't already been drafted. Yeah, I know it shows whether a dwarf is already in another squad up at the top of the screen, but that's too far away from the list, and I keep accidentally choosing those dwarves anyway. There should be an option to exclude already-drafted dwarves from the list entirely. And there should also be an option to exclude dwarves who are resting from injuries and/or cannot walk. And it should be possible to exclude mothers, especially mothers with babies. Or I should at least be able to SEE those things on the military screen! As it is now, I need to painstakingly go through the entire Health list and make a list in Notepad of all dwarves who are unfit for battle. Then I need to look at the Thoughts and Preferences of every child and baby, and make a list of their parents. And worst of all, I need to figure out which dwarves are far away from the fortress, and will probably just get slaughtered like lambs if I order them to come back and defend the fortress (or they just won't make it back in time). Usually this is just one or two dwarves, but one time I had a horrible shortage of barrels and thus an urgent need for wood. So I had over a dozen dwarves out there chopping and hauling wood. It wasn't enough to just make a list of the ones who were chopping or hauling, because there were also some who coming back to eat, drink, or sleep, and some who had other labors enabled and were coming back to do those. So, the military screen needs to show the following things for all dwarves: Whether they are male or female, whether they have a child, whether they have a baby, whether they have any serious health problems, whether they are unable to walk, each dwarf's current job, and each dwarf's distance to the nearest barracks.

This sounds more like a suggestion than a bug? I think the forums are the place for that. |

Again, some of this is already covered by other bug reports - doing a search first would help. The rest is indeed in suggestion territory and should be discussed on the appropriate forum: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?board=5.0 |
