| Description | my dwarves are currently digging out an adamantine vein and i have dropped water and made obsidian into the first layer of the magma lake, i am currently trying to make obsidian into the second layer but when the water is dumped into the pond it causes the magma to just fill in an empty spot and has the depth numbers move around, it is not creating obsidian | ||||

This is a long-standing bug that dates back to 0.28.181.40d and earlier - if you place a pond zone 1 Z-level above magma, the tile will simply be emptied and generate a puff of steam rather than creating obsidian; presumably, it's placing "1/7 water" directly into the tile and overwriting the magma already present, and the heat from the (just-removed) magma makes it instantly boil away. |

I think this report is describing the magma flow behavior. Mixing water and magma on a magma flow tile does not create obsidian, it just removes both fluids. You can work around this by constructing an upstair in the tile (designated while the tile is empty), which will disable the magma flow removal and allow obsidian to form. The behavior of magma flow tiles may be intentional, to make sealing off the magma sea more difficult. |
