Summary0007013: Some Adventure Mode shops don't accept coins/currency
DescriptionSome shops in Adventure Mode have currency listed in their "trade goods" window. In said shops, using the "ask for currency" option will give you a range of 0-0. You can barter for the stacks of currency. However, it seems to be valued as if it wasn't valid currency for that civilization (I traded some giant cave spider silk trousers I got off a goblin for a shop's entire stack of 200 gold coins). Using the "offer currency" option will also give you a range of 0-0, regardless of where you obtained the currency (I had some gold coins from elsewhere in the civ, and also tried using the stack of 200 gold coins I got from that particular shop; neither work as currency).

Note that this is technically a duplicate of 0001284, but that issue was marked as resolved, so I am submitting this report to reopen the issue since I have proof it is still a problem.

Can confirm that this has been a problem since 40.01.

I have an additional save file, if needed,
where this is at least very often the case.
(In fact I haven't met a normal shop in this world yet).
There is also a market where you only get "range 0-0",
but the market people do not have coins in their offer.
I also have encountered some fully equipped shops without owner in this world.
This world generated in 0.40.03

Thanks, Matthias.

Interesting. I've never seen a shop where currency worked. The coins are always in the inventory for trade and asking for currency never works (gives 0-0 range).

Also, values of items are never shown. Related?

Reminder sent to: mkiever

A 0.40.03 save would be helpful, since the save given is from 0.40.02 and incompatible with the latest version.

Here is a save from the OSX version of .04 wherein I've never seen a shop accept currency; also no item values are ever shown - related?:

I've seen this too, the one or two times I've bothered going into a shop. If I recall, I had to trade a large amount of cash from my inventory (instead of through "offer currency") to make purchases.

orangechicken: to my knowledge, the trade window has never given the value of items (or at least since 0.34.11). I don't think it's related to this.

Finally, there it is:
http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=9123
You are on a market, where at least some merchants
have the "range 0 of 0" problem when trying 'a'/'o' commands.
To the north, 5th shop on the right, is a fully equipped
armor shop without keeper.
Some merchants have money, checked by looking in their pouches.

Just searched the bug database.
Cannot find a bug for shop without shopkeeper.
Shall I open a new separate bug ?

Matthias.

^^^ I don't know if that's a bug. The shopkeeper might be busy somewhere else. If the shopkeeper never comes back, that's probably a bug.

Isn't there a concept of "foreign money" not being accepted? Like if you bring goblin coins to a human market.

Would a 0.40.05 save exhibiting this behavior be useful?

Hinaichigo: you are correct. Even when the game is working correctly, money from one human civilization is no good in other human civilizations.

However, in this case, the money the shopkeepers hold is also considered no good, despite presumably being from the same civilization. Actually, that's a possible cause for the bug- their currency incorrectly being labeled foreign currency would produce this issue, although I'm sure there could be other causes.

I think this issue is more complex than the coins being treated as valueless. I believe the ask for/offer "currency" feature is an outdated part of the interface that never got updated, and thus isn't quite relevant for the bug here.

The real problem, as far as I can tell, is that the currency is treated as too inconsequential for trade, using the "perhaps if you offered more items we could trade" feature that was designed to prevent you from buying out an entire caravan with a single barrel of prepared food.

I was able to trade for 1 turkey meat offering 2 silver coins (with [CURRENCY:SILVER:12] in my entity raws). However, if I attempted to purchase 2 turkey meat, then regardless of whether I offered 4 silver coins, 8 silver coins, or 20 silver coins, I was still prompted that I would need to give them more items.

I, too, guess that it's more complex.
I think there are also some side effects
from the new conversation items
which use the same interface
(exchange, give or take personal items/demand an item)

@orangechicken
my save from 0.40.03 still works in 0.40.09.

I've been playing version 43.05 and I am having this issue as well in adventure mode. It has happened in multiple worlds across multiple characters. In fact I am not seeing anything but 1 currency no matter where I go in any of the worlds.
