Description | The smelter building gives an error message when attempting to add a job. The error message indicates that one or the other of fuel and/or ore is not available. Fuel is available in abundance (0000090:0000090 units), but consists entirely of charcoal produced from burning wood. Ore is available in massive quantities as well, such as gold, silver, and galena. | ||||

is the smelter in a burrow? |

I have observed this in all three 31.0x versions, and it occurs with all ordinary fuel types available (charcoal, coke), though I have not tried Magma. In all cases the smelters have been in burrows, in the most recent case it is in the same burrow as the fuel. Jobs will occasionally queue from manager. Seem to persist through save/load. Smelter jobs are sporadically available to be assigned from the workshop. (I haven't confirmed this, but it appears jobs are assignable when a "make charcoal" job is active. In all cases so far the wood furnace would be in the same burrow.) Is there a known bug with jobs in burrows? If so I'll just drop the smelter from the burrow. I can upload a 31.03 save tonight if desired. |

Oh, this is probably what's causing it: 0000434, "Reaction jobs don't use raw materials outside burrow, but other jobs do" So yeah, as long as everything goes back to normal when you delete the burrow, then this is a duplicate and the save won't be needed. |

I may have spoken too soon. It would appear my 31.03 map doesn't even have coal exposed or mined yet, and I didn't bring any with me. I'll credit this issue on earlier forts to either the pathfinding or the burrows bug. If I run into it again I'll track down the new bug report. As a clarification on the 31.03 reflexes: I can use the smelter and perform all normally available jobs with it in a burrow. |
