Summary | 0000925: Dwaarves go into combat using first weapon, not first non-training weapon
Description | I had squads set up to train in axe fighting, with both battleaxes and training axes equipped to reduce the chance of injury during sparring. Responding to an ambush, fighters with training axes equipped above battleaxes used the training axe, while fighters with battleaxes equipped above training axes used the battleaxe. Training should use training weapons and actual combat should use actual weapons, rather than being order-dependent.
Steps To Reproduce | Set up the order of weapons in the military/equip screen, send dwarves into combat, view the report. (Have only tried in dwarf mode, not arena.)

"Battleaxes equipped above training axes"? I'm not sure you're supposed to assign multiple weapons at all. |
The need is for training troops to be able to react with actual weapons, not training weapons, when an ambush is sprung or a thief appears. Plus, there is no apparent way to change the equipment loadout between tasks (e.g. Train and Station), and the response time of the arsenal dwarf is a big chunk of a month, so both kinds of weapons are needed in the TOE. |
Dwarves don't spar (right?) so there's no need for training weapons anyway. Demonstrations and all can go on just fine without them. Multiple weapons is a whole separate issue and nothing to do with training weapons. |
I think I saw a message about sparring once, but that's it. So yeah, I should be safe just assigning the regular weapon. Worth a try to see if skill gains with regular weapons work OK. |
Dwarves can and do spar. They have to be fairly proficient with the weapon they are using before they will, and they must be on active/training duty. |
