Summary | 0009471: Crutches assigned to a permanently injured dwarf remain in inventory/in use when forbidden
Description | If a dwarf permanently loses his/her ability to stand, walk, or otherwise requires a crutch, the crutch is (seemingly) permanently assigned to that dwarf. Forbidding it, marking it for dumping, and other interactions do not cause the dwarf to let go of the crutch.
Steps To Reproduce | 1. Start Fortress mode in 42.xx 2. Create a functioning hospital capable of caring for mild injuries. 3. Have a dwarf break his or her legs, or otherwise lose the ability to walk. 4. After the dwarf has been treated and assigned a crutch, forbid their crutch from the [z] Stocks page 5. From their [v][i] inventory page, dump the crutch they are using. 6. Note that the dwarf will continue carrying their first assigned crutch throughout military equipment changes, stockpile visits, 'store personal item' jobs, etc.
Additional Information | Verified on two fortresses personally, one other user online.

Forbidden items marked for dumping cannot be dumped. Try unforbidding the crutch (and setting a valid dump zone) to see if the dwarves will grab it and throw it away (that used to work in v0.40, at least). Just forbidding the crutch does not cause the dwarf to drop it, but probably should. |
|
Why would you want an injured dwarf to not be able to walk? |
|
@mrmagolor - I want him to switch to a finely crafted heavy metal crutch, for crushing skulls. |
|
Confirmed Loci's comment. I claimed the crutch, removed the dump designation, and unpaused for a few moments. Then I re-dumped it, and sure enough, a dwarf confiscated it, another came and carried her to the hospital, she was re-diagnosed, and a proper weapon-grade crutch was issued. Not a bug - a misunderstanding of the forbid rules |
