Summary0001283: Woodcutters doing nothing
DescriptionWhen I assign woodcutters to cut trees (Woodcutting labour assigned, trees designated to cut) they just mill around and do nothing. Otherwise they're fully functioning Dwarves.

In gameplay forum other people have reported this problem.

They need axes. Are they holding axes?

There are surplus axes. And the ones that are holding axes are still doing nothing.

Its almost certainly got to do with the military eating up all the axes, remember that soldiers can and will under certain circumstances hold many weapons.

Did you activate the woodcutting labor via Dwarf Therapist or another utility?

I only have 10 military dwarves and no axedwarves as far as I know. I'll make more axes and test again. I Dwarf Therapist'd the woodcutting labour but I've gone and found all my woodcutters and reset their woodcutting labours manually. Still didn't work.

Will check and report back.

I loaded up your save, disabled the "Wood Cutting" labor on "Etur Likotlitast, Woodworker," waited about 10 seconds, re-enabled it, and he immediately grabbed an axe and started chopping down trees. The delay might have been important, I'm not sure. In any case, looks like it was all Dwarf Therapist's fault.

Does that get things working on your end?

edit: uh, that was weird. He cut down one tree, then hauled the axe back to the stockpile and went back to having "No Job". I'm pretty sure this is DT's fault, too, but I don't know how to "reset" him.

Can anyone reproduce this bug without using DT or other utilities?

Yea, I hear Cthonic is working on a fix for this.

I have more Battle Axes now than I do military dwarves, and they still aren't cutting. I'll try to reproduce without DT.

I had a similar issue, and when I disbanded the squad my guy was in, he immediately went and grabbed an axe and started cutting.

I'm marking this resolved since it seems likely to have been caused by DT. See 0001451 for similar issues with military woodcutters.
