Summary0000777: Piles of siltstone on glacier map.
DescriptionOn areas where dwarves have "trampled" the snow, piles of siltstone appear. May be due to collapsing of a siltstone floor, but said collapsing took place 3 z-levels down, no where near the snow.

This sounds like intended behavior. I've seen dwarves track stone simply from walking through loose stone laying around on the floor or in stockpiles. You say the siltstone is 3 levels down?

Is it safe to assume that your dwarves are able to walk in your siltstone area 3 levels down? Or even just over any loose siltstone somewhere in your fort ? If so this is probably intended behavior.

I believe it is intended, however it seems to continue filling out everywhere, much like snow does, without it ever stopping.

I agree that the insane quantity of of spatter is maybe a bit excessive. I do find it pretty damn funny though.

Take a look through 0000296 to see my research on blood spatter. I haven't looked that closely at stone yet but since the subject has come up let me see if I can find a critter in the arena I can smash up to generate some stone dust to play around with.

Yeah it does seem to fairly similar, that image you posted on the wiki pretty much sums up what I have been seeing.

I suspect although I'm only guessing here is that it may be spreading/generating in a similar fashion to blood, which is to say when they try to clean themselves it's just turning around and making more dust/blood when ends up being an endless cycle of steady growth.

The trick is going to be testing it. I don't seem to be able to generate any dust in the arena to play with, which reduces me to building something in fort mode and trying to test it using squad move commands to at least partially control the motion of a dwarf.

That'll take a bit of work, and we may already have enough here for Toady to find it without too much effort.

DoctorZuber is very probably correct that this has the same causes as 0000296, so I'm closing this as a duplicate.
