Same with Bar\Block stockpiles.
"Blocks: Metal" category contains all metals, gems, stone, and some clay I think. Very long list in general.
Also in "Blocks" category "Stone" option has no effect, it won't accept any stone blocks until you select the specific stone in "Blocks: Metal" category.

Can confirm this. Was confusing when dwarves refused to store stone furniture in my "stone furniture" stockpile, and then promptly shifted it to the "metal furniture" stockpile once that was created.

Workaround: Forbid the entire "metals" category, then manually enable the types you want stored.

Is this actually a bug though? Seems like a feature that allows material specific stockpiles, instead of type specific stockpiles. The interface needs to be fixed up though.

Interface categories could be improved, but I wouldn't consider this a bug.

This is quite obviously a bug. It is absurd to have to search through (and mark half of) the 5-6 page list every time you need an output stockpile for a mason.

Also, regarding reproduction, just going into custom stockpile settings - blocks: metal seems to demonstrate the issue as well.

Earlier I couldn't figure out for the life of my why my dwarves were storing rock blocks in my metal block/bin stockpile by the smithies... I guess this explains it.

Anyway, it's a bug, because there already is a stone stockpile setting, in addition to the metal ones. Just now, stone is included with the metals, and the stone setting doesn't work.

This is only half a bug, because you are supposed to be able to make rock bars and metal blocks (only by modding though). The interface needs an improvement, namely categorizing into Blocks (rock), Blocks (metal), Blocks (other), Bars (rock), Bars (metal), Bars (other).

I'm having problem with wood blocks, carpenter shops cluttered up with them because i didn't know about this before hand. Guess i'll just de-construct the shop and make a new one and stop making wood blocks for now.

Ok this is definitely a bug, and a whole one. There is no way sand, ooze or diamond should be under metal bars or metal blocks, if it were even possible to make a bar or block from them they should still be simply under bars or blocks (the non metal part). Yes it also needs a tidy up. Bars contains coal, potash, ash, pearlash, and soap. Blocks contains stone and glass. Barring further improvements to the categorisation all that needs to happen is that everything from gypsum plaster to siliceous ooze needs to be moved over to the non metal list.

I agree this is a bug, but on the other hand I am enjoying the ability to restrict my stone block stockpiles to specific KINDS of blocks. It makes constructing project entirely out of one kind of rock much easier.

So as far as I'm concerned, today can just look at this and say 'feature' and I'll be ok with it. Should prolly get rid of the gems and sands, tho.

Seems like a bug to me. You shouldn't have to check multiple material type entries to stockpile one item.

My stone table is a stone table, it isn't a stone and metal table.

Actually, it IS. All inorganics are valid materials (including soils, sands, and gems). The interface just needs a sorting, rather than clumping them up.

Happening to me as well in 0.31.16. Tried to stockpile stone and it wouldn't happen. Later I made a new metal block stockpile and the teeming masses immediately filled it with stone blocks!

I also encountered this bug - I tried to make a custom finished goods stockpile that disallowed stone crafts, and all my granite scepters and earrings were still being hauled there.
