Summary0001374: If squad is assigned multiple ammo types, dwarves with "individual choice ranged" carry wrong ammo, and other ammo bugs
DescriptionI have a mixed squad of archers and crossbowdwarves (they are all allowed individual weapon choice). I assigned both bolts and arrows to the squad. Result: I now have dwarves who run around with bow in their hands and bolts in their quiver, and the other way around. Obviously, they can't shoot.
Steps To Reproduce1. Create a squad with individual ranged weapon choice.
2. Assign both bolts and arrows
3. Activate the squad using move order, wait till everyone finished gathering equipment.
4. See what they have in their quivers.

What's the status of this bug in 31.19? I'm currently making it the parent report of all the ammo issues I can find, but if this report has become obsolete, I'll probably have to find a different parent.

I'm having this same problem. Disabling hunter ammunition didn't help for me, and removing a dwarf from the military then re-conscripting them didn't either. In both cases they ignore hundreds of ammo in bins as well as on the ground, none forbidden, all within just a few tiles.

However a brand new dwarf who's never been an archer before will wander half way across the battlefield to grab unforbidden ammo when first conscripted.

confirmed with 31.25

looks like they have problems if you split them up into meta-cathegories.
Lets say:
wooden-, bone-bolt for training
Metal bolt for combat

they won't do anything now. If I get more specific, like, "use steel bolts" or "birch bolts", then they pick up bolts again. So they don't know what "wooden, metal, bone" is in general.

I wonder if this is related at all to the bug with foodstuff. The bug there was that food in a container was treated differently then food out of a container. If this is the same bug, then bolts in a bin might be different from bolts out of a bin.

Still getting some weird stuff in 0.42.03

Crossbow dwarfs almost never pick up ammo for training and would rather be doing other things.
